Miko the Kitty: The Danish open sandwich or smørrebrød usually consists of a piece of buttered rye bread and a topping made of different ingredients, typically cold cuts, pieces of meat or fish, cheese or spreads. There is no unique way to prepare a Danish open sandwich. However, one must always begin with the main ingredient: a slice of buttered rye bread.
Fry a fish fillet in breadcrumbs until it turns golden. Place the fillet over the buttered bread and add tartar sauce on top. Then place shrimps, asparagus and smoked salmon side by side and finish with a touch of black caviar over the salmon. If you prefer meat, add thin sliced beef instead of fish, spread tartar sauce and decorate with toasted onion and sprinkling or shredded horseradish if available. Now you have a Danish open sandwich. It’s easy and delicious. I invite you to watch the following video to learn more about smørrebrød and this long-cherished recipe: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JoOKo5BqUo
