Miko the Kitty: Lao Issara (Day of the Free Laos): This holiday was created in 1945 by a nationalist political government party to declare the country’s independence from France. Until that time Laos had been a French colony. From this on the country has been under a communist government that had contributed in keeping this amazing country as a secret jewel in Asia. Right now Laos is a growing country in the travel business, specializing in adventure and eco-tourism. You can go trekking in the jungle on the south-east area of Luang Prabang, Try Kayaking through the great rivers Mekong, Nam Khan or the Nam Back, or go climbing at the mountain walls of Eagle Wall or Gecko Wall both in the area Luang Prabang. One last activity to do: visit a center for rescue and conservation of elephants and maybe try an elephant ride! Don’t forget to check out the Lao Elephant Festival in February!
